Join writer and producer Daisy Goodwin as she sits down with Honor Cargill-Martin, author of Messalina: Rome’s Most Scandalous Empress, to explore how powerful women have been portrayed through history — and how those stories still shape how we see women today.
From ancient Rome to the modern tabloid, women in the spotlight have often been labelled as scandalous or morally suspect. This talk looks at the roots of “slut-shaming” and how it’s been used to control the narrative around ambition, sexuality, and power.
Through a mix of historical insight and sharp conversation, Daisy and Honor will challenge some of the most persistent myths — and offer a more honest look at the women behind them.
Held in partnership with Geist, a cultural forum with a focus on staging live talks. Geist aims to champion a new generation of public intellectuals, alongside more established figures.
