Join us for an evening celebrating the opening of three new exhibitions at Carpenters Workshop Gallery, offering a first look at exceptional new works and an opportunity to meet participating artists.

The Language of Glaze: Shimizu Uichi at 100 marks the birth centenary of renowned Japanese ceramicist Shimizu Uichi (1926–2004), one of the most significant ceramic artists of the twentieth century. Presented in collaboration with deBiousse & West, the exhibition brings together a rare selection of masterful ceramics, including previously unseen works preserved by the artist’s family. Through extraordinary examples of his celebrated celadon and iron-glazed vessels, the exhibition offers fresh insight into Uichi’s enduring legacy and remarkable command of form, glaze and fire.

Taamr is the first UK solo exhibition by Mumbai-based designer and artist Ashiesh Shah, presenting a new body of work centred on copper as both material and metaphor. Drawing on traditional Indian craftsmanship and contemporary sculptural practice, Shah explores transformation, memory and materiality through a series of richly textured works. Embracing copper’s capacity to age and evolve, the exhibition reflects on heritage, change and the beauty of processes shaped by time.

In Small Car, Big Windows, French artists and designers Martin Laforêt and Léa Mestres present new sculptural furniture and lighting works inspired by movement, travel and shifting landscapes. Bringing their distinct practices into dialogue for the first time, the exhibition explores the contrasts between urban and rural environments, balancing Laforêt’s architecturally informed forms with Mestres’ expressive, nature-inspired compositions.

We look forward to welcoming you to discover these exhibitions, meet the artists, and experience the works for the first time.
