'Lockrane’s playing… brings a rare muscularity to jazz-flute improv.'
The Guardian
'A stunning display of sharp-accented runs, earthy whoops and constantly refreshed melodic ideas.'
Vortex Jazz
One of the UK’s most respected jazz flautists, Gareth Lockrane leads his new quintet into Ladbroke Hall for a night of inventive, hard-grooving, high-energy playing. Known for his muscular, expressive sound and fiery improvisation, Lockrane’s career spans stage, screen and studio, from recording with legends like Quincy Jones and Louis Cole, to featuring on the soundtracks for King of Thieves, The Laundromat, and Don’t Look Up.
He’s shared stages with some of the most celebrated names in jazz, including Gwilym Simcock, Christine Tobin, Incognito, Bheki Mseleku and Nikki Iles. In this performance, he brings all of that range and firepower to this new group.
Lockrane also runs the Junior Jazz programme at the Royal Academy of Music, where he’s helping shape the next generation of UK talent.
