Jean Toussaint made his name as saxophonist with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers sharing the bandstand with Terence Blanchard and Mulgrew Miller. He has spent the decades since shaping a voice all his own.
A key figure in modern jazz on both sides of the Atlantic, Toussaint has recorded and toured with Gil Evans, Wynton Marsalis, McCoy Tyner, Max Roach and Cedar Walton. His playing remains melodic, rhythmic, and full of fire. Straight-ahead jazz with no dull edges.
Whether leading his own quintet or joining forces with heavyweights like Eddie Henderson or Jeff “Tain” Watts, Toussaint brings a richness that only decades of lived experience can produce.
