With the Julian Siegel Quartet, BBC Jazz Award–winning saxophonist and composer Julian Siegel is joined by some of the UK’s most distinctive jazz musicians, forming one of the most in-demand quartets on the UK and European jazz scene. Pianist Liam Noble brings a fluid touch and vivid imagination that perfectly complements Siegel’s writing and improvising, allowing the music to move freely in many directions. Together with the driving creativity of drummer Gene Calderazzo and the deep, grounded groove of bassist Oli Hayhurst, the quartet delivers music of striking energy, clarity, and power.
Following their London Jazz Award–winning album Urban Theme Park (Basho Music), the quartet released their second album, VISTA, in 2018 on Whirlwind Recordings. The album features ten original compositions by Siegel alongside a fresh arrangement of Bud Powell’s Un Poco Loco. Performed acoustically, the music moves seamlessly between bop-inflected passages, searching ballads, and uplifting, melodic themes.
Since the release of VISTA, the Julian Siegel Quartet has performed widely across the UK, Europe, and the US, appearing at major international jazz festivals and venues including INNtöne Jazz Festival in Austria, Jazz Standard NYC, Rochester International Jazz Festival, JazzFestival Göttingen, Limerick Jazz Festival, Love Supreme Festival, Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival, and Manchester International Jazz Festival. The quartet was featured on the cover of Jazzwise Magazine in February 2018, and VISTA was named one of Jazzwise’s Top 20 Jazz Albums of the Year.
